食記dine out • kobawoo house @ ktown // 傳統韓國美食 菜包肉보쌈! traditional korean dishes
kobawoo house was first opened in 1985, that's over 30 years now! they specialized in traditional korean dishes. if you still think korean cuisine is all about tofu stew (soondubu) and bbq, then you are very wrong! as a matter of fact, the food culture of korea is actually pretty diverse. they have a lot of ways to treat special ingredients which other countries don't have. let's explore some special dishes today!
the interior design of kobawoo is as traditional as their food. they uses traditional brick & wood as the design elements, which made me feels like i was actually in korea! (i miss kr so bad T-T)
the most popular dish here is bossam. what is it exactly? it's kinda like cabbage pork wrap. you know how people put meat on top of lettuce when eating korean bbq? it's the same thing here, just with different ingredients. bossam uses cabbage (kimchi) to wrap the boiled pork belly slices. we ordered a medium, but it was plenty already!
on top of that big plate lies a big portion of pork belly slice, kimchi, spicy shredded radish, marinated radish slice, green chili, and dried shrimp. the most authentic way of eating bossam is to layer everything on a piece of cabbage kimchi. then squeeze the whole thing into your mouth! the pork belly is not greasy at all, and it tastes so freaking good when it combines with the crunchy kimchi & other spicy ingredients! just makes you want to indulge one piece after another...
braised black cod is cooked with special spicy sauce. and beneath them were some slices of radish. the black cod are soft and fresh with just enough of fat which makes the texture even more silky. the sauce is spicy but bearable. and the radish! oh i just loved it..full of flavor and super soft as well.
gamja jun is meshed potatoes mixed with some vegetables then pan fried, the korean style pancake! it's 100% natural, no artificial add on, which let you enjoy the true taste of potatoes. the pancake outward is crunchy while inside is soft. it's a very simple but authentic dish.
this colorful dish is called jangban guksoo, which is spicy cold noodle. in the middle of the plate is the buckwheat noodles with red chili sauce. and around it are some fresh shredded vegetables like cabbage, cucumber, pepper, carrot, lettuce plus egg and chicken! it's such a pleasure just seeing all these colors being put together : ) after mixing hard with all your strength, you got this beautiful shiny noodles.. the red sauce covered each string of noodle & veggie, the taste is very refreshing & chewy. if you love spicy, get this.
